Braintoss Alternative: Slax Note — Capture, Then Shape What You Said

Braintoss vs Slax Note — Braintoss sends what you captured to your inbox in one tap. Slax Note adds Prompts that turn the same recording into a tweet, blog, or note.

Braintoss is the fastest “capture and forget” app on your phone. One tap, speak / snap / scribble, and it’s emailed to your own inbox — ready to be processed later by Things, Todoist, Notion, Evernote, or whatever tool you actually live in. iOS $2.99, Android $3.49, no subscription. It’s been doing this same thing well for over a decade.

If your only problem is capture-to-inbox speed, Braintoss is hard to beat. Don’t switch.

But if you find that “send to inbox” is just step one — and step two is always “now let me turn this into a post / a draft / a clean note” — that’s where Slax Note is built differently. One recording, many shapes.

At a glance

Go for Slax Note if…

  • You record because you plan to publish — a tweet, a post, a newsletter
  • You want the polished output inside the app, not in a separate tool you process to later
  • You want one recording to become several shapes via Prompts
  • You don’t already have a strong “everything ends up in my inbox” workflow

Stick with Braintoss if…

  • You only need raw capture, fast — and your downstream tools read email
  • You also need photo and scribble capture
  • You don’t want any AI between you and what you said
  • You’d rather pay $3 once than any subscription

One sentence: Braintoss tosses what you captured into your inbox. Slax Note shapes what you said into the thing you actually wanted to publish.

What Braintoss Does Well

Let’s be honest. For what it does, Braintoss is excellent — and it’s been doing the same thing well for over a decade.

What stands out:

  • Speed. One tap, speak / snap / scribble, sent. The whole loop is faster than opening any other notes app
  • One-time pricing. $2.99 on iOS, $3.49 on Android. Pay once, use for years
  • Email as the integration. Every tool reads email — Things, Todoist, Notion, Evernote. Braintoss feeds them all without a single Zapier rule
  • Three input modes. Voice + photo + scribble — not just voice
  • Apple Watch support for capture on the wrist
  • Still actively maintained — iOS update 2025-10-14 with iOS 26 fixes
  • Domain moved from braintoss.com to braintoss.app — same product, just a rename

If your workflow is “capture fast, process in the tool I actually live in,” Braintoss is the right tool and you should stop reading.

Where Slax Note Goes Different

We didn’t build a faster capture tool. We built a different product for what happens after capture.

A lot of users we talk to capture into Braintoss (or Apple Notes, or Drafts), then spend the next 20 minutes pasting the transcript into ChatGPT, asking for a tweet version, then a LinkedIn version, then a clean note. That second part — turning raw voice into shaped output — is the actual work.

One recording, many shapes

You speak for two minutes. Then you pick a Prompt:

  • “Turn this into a 280-character tweet, sharp opener.”
  • “Make this a LinkedIn post, 200 words, professional tone.”
  • “Rewrite as a blog draft with subheads.”
  • “Summarize as bullet points for my own notes.”

Same recording, four outputs, side by side. You keep what you want.

Braintoss gets the raw text into your inbox in 5 seconds. Slax Note gets the finished outputs in 30 — and you don’t paste anywhere.

Custom Prompts, shareable

Braintoss has no AI. We let you write your own Prompts — and share them with other Slax Note users when you want.

Web app

Braintoss is mobile + Watch only. Slax Note has iOS, Android, and a full web app at n.slax.com — record on the phone, edit on the laptop, paste into 公众号 / Substack / Medium.

Pricing — Different Categories, Different Costs

Braintoss: $2.99 / $3.49 one-time. Buy once, done. Slax Note Pro: $4.99/month or $49.99/year.

These aren’t competing on price — they’re different categories of tool.

  • Braintoss’s bill is just the app. No transcription server, no AI rewrites
  • Slax Note’s bill funds AI Polish, Prompt-based output, and web/mobile sync. Each recording can become several finished things inside the app

If your bill is for raw capture, Braintoss can’t be beat. If your bill is for “get me to a publishable thing,” Slax Note is what that costs.

“Braintoss is the world’s fastest ‘send to self.’ Slax Note is what you’d want at the other end of that send.”

How we think about this

Two beliefs shape Slax Note.

Personal first, not meetings. Meeting tools pull a product toward speaker separation, calendar integration, attendee detection, enterprise pricing — each one drags focus away from the person walking down the street with an idea. Braintoss has held that personal-first line for over a decade. We share the bet, just at a different scope.

Built to be here in five years, growing with you. The point of voice notes isn’t today’s recording. It’s what your library looks like after three years — the walk-the-dog idea from last March that helps you write something today, the half-thought from a year ago that turns out to be the seed of next month’s project. Braintoss has shipped the same focused product for over a decade. We’re aiming for the same kind of longevity with a wider scope. We use this ourselves every day, which is the only honest reason to believe it’ll still be here when you need it.

What Slax Note Doesn’t Have Yet

We’d rather you switch with both eyes open. What Braintoss has that we don’t:

  • One-time pricing. We’re a subscription. If you hate subscriptions, Braintoss is the cleaner buy
  • Capture speed measured in single seconds. We’re fast, but Braintoss is engineered around one tap → done
  • Photo + scribble capture. Voice + text only today
  • Email-out integration. We have built-in share-to (X, LinkedIn, etc.) inside the app, not arbitrary email piping
  • Apple Watch. Not built
  • Long recordings. We cap each recording at 30 minutes

If any of those are core, Braintoss stays a better fit — or run both.

Other Alternatives We Considered

  • AudioPen — Single-paragraph rewrite tool with a Mac app for system-wide voice typing. See comparison →
  • Voicenotes — Now leads with Meetings; Memos is a sub-product. Wide platform coverage. See comparison →
  • Mem AI — AI-native notes with chat-across-archive and Heads Up. See comparison →
  • Drafts — Apple-only, deep automation, “where text starts.” Strong if you live in iOS Shortcuts
  • Apple Notes / Google Keep — Free, OS-native, fine for raw capture

FAQ

Is Slax Note really free to try? Yes. Free plan: 5 saved notes, 10 AI Polish runs total, recordings up to 5 minutes. Pro ($4.99/mo or $49.99/yr) lifts those limits.

Can Slax Note send to my email like Braintoss? Not directly today. We have built-in share-to inside the app and copy-to-clipboard. If “everything ends up in my inbox” is your core workflow, Braintoss does that natively.

Can I run Braintoss and Slax Note together? Yes. Braintoss for raw capture, Slax Note for recordings that need to become a finished post or note. Decide what stays after a few weeks.

What languages does Slax Note support? The app UI is in English, 中文, and Português. Voice transcription supports English, Chinese, German, and Japanese per the marketing page.
